Pune: PCMC to bear funeral expenses at burial grounds, crematoriums

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to bear the expenses for funerals. The decision has been approved by the standing committee and at the general body meeting, and came into force from Monday. Outgoing Municipal Commissioner Rajeev Jadhav gave his nod to the proposal on his last day at office. According to civic officials, PCMC runs two electric crematoria and one diesel crematorium. “At these three crematoria, PCMC will bear the expenses for funerals. Besides, there are several burial grounds belonging to Christians, Muslims and Lingayats. At these cemeteries or burial grounds, PCMC will dig the grave at its own expenditure,” an official said.
